Zirconia is a solid white-colored metal. Since it is a tissue-friendly material and its fracture resistance is very high, it is one of the most frequently preferred materials in dentistry.

It can be used in the making of all the crowning restorations on the front and rear teeth. Additionally,

• In the treatment of severe discoloration and hereditary discoloration which cannot be treated with dental bleaching,
• In the treatment of diastema (gap between teeth), uneven teeth or rotated teeth where orthodontic treatment is not preferred,
• To replace the old fillings that got discolored and structurally went bad,
• While replacing the missing front and rear teeth with implant-supported overdenture prostheses
•  And to provide an aesthetic smile.

• Zirconia crowns are pressure-resistant like your own teeth, which carry out cutting/chewing functions comfortably.
• Metal-backed porcelain crowns (which is an old method) are achieved through piling up tooth-colored porcelain on metal. Therefore, the inner surface of the crowns consists of grey-colored metal. In time, this grey-colored metal becomes visible and causes grey/black coloring on the gingival margin (sides of the gums). On the other hand, zirconia crowns have an integral structure and have the same color as teeth; thus, it doesn’t cause any discoloration on the gums.
• Through a transparency effect on the tips of the zirconia; a natural, aesthetic image that is fit for one’s teeth structure can be achieved.

After a slight reduction, the teeth are measured via precise measurement tools and sent to the laboratory. In the laboratory, a zirconium infrastructure and a porcelain superstructure that matches the requested color and size are produced. After the production is complete, the zirconium crown that has been adapted to the teeth after certain try-outs is permanently bonded with special adhesives.

All teeth to be restored are anesthetized prior to the procedure to ensure that the patient doesn’t feel any pain during the preparation process. Few people feel a slight ache. However, it is ensured that our patients can sustain their life standards with the temporary crowns until the treatment process is complete.

This practice, though it varies according to the treatment planning, can be completed in one week on average for those without any gum problems. A few additional trials may be required depending on the person’s liking or the dentist’s opinion.

The maintenance of zirconia is no different from standard teeth maintenance. The teeth should be brushed 2 times a day and flossed meticulously and regularly. Moreover, our patients should not neglect the routine dentist visits and follow-up sessions held every 6 months.

The zirconium crown can be done for people at any age after the total growth of their permanent teeth. However, it is not recommended until 18-20 years of age since the body is still growing and there might be gaps due to jaw growth.

It doesn’t cause allergies because it doesn’t contain metal.

It’s not a correct approach to start a dental procedure when the gums are infected. First, in case of a possible existence of a gum-related problem, the gums should be treated to make them healthy again. This will also increase the lifetime of the relevant restoration.

Since it does not contain any metal, it is not possible for it to bring about a change in taste or bad breath.

Because it has a smooth porcelain surface, it does not cause any plaque accumulation. Therefore, it is not affected by any colorant elements such as coffee, tea and cigarettes. You can maintain them for long years if you follow daily oral hygiene rules and visit your dentist every 6 months.

Since the zirconium crowns are removed through cutting, no tissue loss can be observed.
